How to start using coral-shop products?

Congratulation to your decision to start using coral-shop preparations! We would like to offer you a brief itinerary, as before switching to our products, you need to take some important measures:

Make sure that the following is in good order:

  • Spectrum and intensity of lighting
  • Flow rate of water between the aquarium and the sump.
Optimal rate is approximately tenfold volume of the aquarium per hour
  • Water current inside the aquarium,
needed to eliminate dead spots, where impurities could accumulate

Remove from your system:

  • All sorbents for removing phosphates or nitrates,
zeolith and similar materials, filters with active carbon
  • Sea muds and doped live sands
  • Chemical reactors for removing impurities (sulphur- and vodka-reactors etc.)

Make sure your system is equipped with:

  • First-rate mechanical pre-filtration of organic and inorganic particulate impurities
  • Nitrification filter, whose performance corresponds to the amount and types of animals
in the aquarium, which is equipped with a first-rate medium for nitrification bacteria.
The more powerful filter the better
  • Satisfactory amount of live stones for biological denitrification. The more the better.
  • Skimmer, whose performance corresponds to the size and animal population of the aquarium.
Both weak and too strong skimmer cause difficulties
  • Change one-time approx. 30 – 50% of the total volume of water in the system.
Use CS Marine Salt for the seawater make-up

Your system is now ready for transition to the coral-shop reefkeeping concept. First of all it is necessary to replenish the depletions of essential elements and substances. All offered conceptions of additives are mutually compatible; it all depends on the approach which suits you the best. In case the first choice may be wrong, you can switch to another conception at any time. A Ca- reactor is not needed, in case the system is equipped with, all conceptions can be adequately adjusted.

1 - Apply regularly preparations from selected conception of additives

CHOOSE Platinum Reef

For simplicity of the care and for the economy we recommend the conception PLATINUM REEF. It is primarily intended for systems without Ca-reactors and for the complete care you only need 3 products! If using a Ca-reactor, then merely 2 products.

OR Marine Line

As an ultimate standard and “golden mean” of your choice we recommend the MARINE LINE conception. The conception is primarily intended for systems with Ca-reactor and for the complete care you need only 4 products. If not using a Ca-reactor, you will need additional 2 products from the PROFI PLUS conception.

OR Profi Plus

For the highest level of control and professional care we recommend the PROFI PLUS conception. It is a very flexible conception, which, however, requires a higher level of knowledge and experience.

Another key area of seawater care is the removal of unwanted matter. While removing phosphorus and nitrogen compounds can be carried out in a controlled manner, a regular exchange of water is very important to ensure the removal of many other unidentified impurities that cannot be eliminated in any other way.

2 - Regularly exchange water and remove phosphates and nitrates in controlled manner

Exchange water once a month in the amount of 5 to 10% of total system volume. Use the naturally concentrated salt CS Marine Salt.

Apply CS DiphoPhos regularly for controlled removal of phosphates – the preparation acts with immediate effect. Apply CS NitraClean regularly for natural biological removal of nitrates and other nitrogen compounds. The preparation has a slower start of action (from 1 to 2 weeks), but is has a long-term effect.

As same as saltwater fish and crustaceans, corals are also animals and need to be fed. Although it is possible to decrease the portion of macro-particulate organic nutrients, needed for the total metabolism of the animals, by using suitable DOM additives - and thus lower the rate of the contamination of the aquarium - there is a large number of important substances that cannot be replaced.

3 - Regularly feed saltwater fish and invertebrates

CS CoraTroph Reef is a complete food, containing all needed ingredients in dissolved, colloidal and particulate form.

Always use CT TEST kits (or other exact tests) and coral-shop online dosing calculators to ensure exact doses.

4 - Test the water regularly for the concentration of important elements

Test the seawater regularly using our tests CS TEST (Ca, Mg, Alkalinity, Chlorinity and other tests, which will be launched soon). Keep checking also on concentrations of phosphates, nitrates and possible other impurities. We also recommend to check concentrations of Sr, B, I and K.

Some important information and comments

Apply coral-shop preparations regularly – it is better to apply them in smaller amounts more often than less frequently in larger quantities. Whenever possible, prefer application of the preparations though the dosing pumps.

In the coral-shop product list you will also find the preparations for exceptional situations. Use CS DeChlorAmm if you import fish and invertebrates, in case of overfeeding or animals kill – simply always when there is a measurable concentration of ammonia in seawater. CS CoraSound Multi is used for prevention and cure of parasitic, bacterial and viral diseases of fish and invertebrates. In case you observe a low pH while reading correct alkalinity (or KH) level, use pH-Buffer.

You can apply quality bacterial cultures regularly, although it is not necessary if there is a sufficient amount of live stones in the aquarium. On the contrary, do not apply sea mud and live sands, usually overabundant with unicellular and other lower organisms.

Try to avoid the combination of coral-shop preparations with the products of other manufacturers! They may not be mutually compatible and, in addition, you lose the chance of shared solutions of any possible problems with coral-shop specialists.

We wish you many vital, fast growing and properly coloured animals!
